General elections were held in British Guiana in 1957.[1] The result was a victory for the People's Progressive Party, whose leader, Cheddi Jagan, remained Prime Minister.

After the election, the moderate faction of the PPP led by Forbes Burnham left the party to form the People's National Congress together with the United Democratic Party.[1]
